about

Had Lee Hazelwood sung a sea shanty it may have sounded something like this! Hans wrote the music in his characteristic folk guitar building to epic western style, then King Prawn band mate Nikolai Jones penned the lyrics to add a poetic maritime twist, pensively delivered here with the moody baritone vocals of Andrew J. Davies. The recording features Han’s mum playing an accordion she carried across the border when she fled from East to West Berlin in the 1950’s.

lyrics

On a distant coast so very far there’s a little house in Porbandar, where the glasses clink and the people drink many bottles from the altar. When a storm from sea batten down the life you lead, when the hail stones sting your eyes. Through the eye of the storm keep your promises sworn as the cold wind whistles by. And it’s one more time for the waves that climb and smash upon the wall. And it’s one last song for the siren as she heeds the dying call… heeds the dying call.

about

Hans Deville London, UK

Guitarist & producer HANS DEVILLE cut his rock’n’roll teeth with highly respected ska-punk band KING PRAWN.
Setting up a studio in his stained-glass workshop, an album of sea shanty, mariachi horns & twangy guitar began to develop. Live brass was recorded by his ska punk buddies, even his mum played accordion on first single Porbandar with band mate Nikolai Jones donating a mighty fine lyric.
